Get Your Custard Fix

Woof Fellow Custard Lovers,

A whole bunch of my pals came to help be be cute and adorable at an OccuPaws fund-raiser at Culver's in Middleton. If a whole lotta humans stuffed themselves silly and ate lots and lots, OccuPaws will get some green stuff that humans really seem to love. There were lots of people there and the food smelled great so I'm sure they had a lot. We, on the other hand just got to sit under signs and stuff.

Some of us became movie stars. You can watch us by clicking here on Channel 27!!
All for now,
Harley

Forgetful

Woof!

You know, Harley and I have been playing so much we keep forgetting to write our blogs! So here is our week in review! First Harley got to go to visit a school in Watertown and see Divit and Geyser and lots of kids.

Then all of us got to go to Ability Days in Janesville and see lots of kids from Kindergarten to second grade. Was I tired!

Then on the way over to Nikki's to make a movie, we saw 4 buses with my picture on them!!! Here is one of them.

Then we got to Nikki's and was it BORING!!!! Some students were making a movie about OccuPaws so Mom and Dad and Nikki kept looking into lights and blah blah blah - so much human talk I fell asleep!

Love,
Wilbur

Mocha Moments

Today we were at Mocha Moments Coffee Shop in Janesville. There were 5 puppies there for a fundraiser for OccuPaws. Mocha Moments was nice enough to open on a Sunday for a benefit day. Divit, Banjo, Cinder, Sonny & Maddi were there. We would like to thank the owners of Mocha Moments for all of their help with the fund raiser. I think their kids had a great time playing with the puppies.

Community Day Sale NORTH

Woof Y'all

I had a great adventure this morning. First I went and taught Pam and her hubby some of the basic commands I know and then I took them for a blind-folded walk around East Towne. All my humans said I was a good boy.

Then we stood in from of the Boston Store and traded white books for green paper. Everybody seemed happy about the trade. My humans had a table to give other pieces of paper and stuff to people.

My old pal Jacob came to visit, he just ignored me and went right for Sonny. He grabbed the leash and just took over Sonny's training I think. The words were kinda hard to understand though.

Eventually there were so many people there, Jacob had to share Sonny with a bunch of other little humans.

Last year I thought my bunny ears were embarassing until I saw poor Super-Dog Dale wearing all sorts of red and white human skins. He took it like a gentleman though and trouped through the crowd like a manley canine (even in tights).

After a while even the youngsters got tired out and could barely move.

You can see more pictures here on Facebook.

Quite the Pair

Quite the weather change, apparenlty Banjo was cold. He was found louging on the sofa three times which was not preparing him for the Dane County OccuPaws Training Session this evening. Weather kept us all in the house, so Banjo was a little stir crazy - never good for training.

Three puppies attended along with one guide dog, four trainees, and Toby. One of the puppies is Banjo's replacement. Neva took to him right away; Banjo could not care less.

First, the older dogs practiced DOWN STAY while the puppies attempted to provoke a response that would get the big dogs in trouble. After their teasing, the puppies were put to the test, as much as a ten week old puppy can be tested. It was more like "Follow the Treat".

Guide dog Dale looks on as the puppies (Neva, Sparta, and Sonny) are put through their first training class. View more photos from the training session.

Banjo impressed me tonight. I dropped a treat right in front of his mouth. Without a verbal LEAVE IT or NO, he didn't touch it even though it was right in front of his nose. He actually got up and moved away. Now if he would only leave the trash cans alone.

When the training session concluded, dogs will be dogs. Banjo showed Neva how he really felt about her replacing him at our house. The spunky little girl is a fighter and fought back hard. Her teeth searching for ears, lips, paws, or tail, but catching mostly air.

Lisa experienced Neva's bite first hand and says that she "Bites Hard".

Barktoberfest 2009

View all the photos from Barktoberfest - puppy raisers can add their photos

After much anticipation and preparation, we celebrated Barktoberfest at Tyranena Brewery this afternoon. The weather was less than cooperative, at least it wasn't raining. The cooperation of the OccuPaws Volunteers and generosity of atendees "overshadowed" the weather to make a good time and raise money for a worthy cause.

As usual the puppies were the focal point of the event. Three of our newest members (Maddi, Sonny, and Sparta) were initiated by Banjo and the rest of the pack - canine and human. We would have made a lot more money if we had charged people a dollar to switch holding/handling the puppies.

The most common reminder was that "Puppy teeth are sharp."

Settling into our seats to eat brats, drink [root] beer, and listen to the polka band put our more "mature" dogs in close proximity to each other. Slick, Reggie, and Divit were well behaved until my teenage puppy joined them and started causing wrestling with Slick. Reggie, our elder statesman, kept his distance from the fray. He eventually couldn't control his play drive and joined in.

Banjo and I had put in a full day before Barktoberfest even started. The Walk to Cure Diabetes was this morning. We walked the grounds, working the crowd, and meeting a lot of nice people, pets, and mascots. There must have been twenty mascots including Bucky, Scoopee, Maynard, Klement's Hot Dog, and State Street Brat, whose personal guide was interested in volunteering for OccuPaws.

Unfortunately we had to leave before the conclusion to help set-up at Tyranena.

Run Run Run

Wooffie!

What a fun day!

I met all sorts of girls who liked to oooooh and aaaaahhhh over my canine friends and I.

Today was the Delta Gamma 3 mile run/walk on the University of Wisconsin campus.

Of course, there were some male humans that were oooohing and aaaaahhing as well. I really liked one male human (he finished the run first), who laid down on the side walk and gently petted my tummy. That was heaven. He seemed to know exactly what I liked. I wonder if I will ever get to see him again…

My brother Deegan and my friends Geyser, Reggie, Banjo and Divit attended the event..

After the walk, we hung out on the Union Terrace. Some of the humans purchased Babcock Ice cream (Yummm). But no food for us!

Count me in the next time OccuPaws goes on campus!

Your friend,

Slick

Concert

Woof, Woof

Sorry I haven't written sooner, but Divit and I have had a busy couple of days. Mom says Divit is getting his last "boot camp" days done. He has been learning to take treats gently (no brainer), to come out of his crate sloooowly ( yawn, easy), to wait his turn at the door and to walk out slowly (could it get any easier?). and Mom has been especially noisy and careless dropping stuff too....butterfingers.

I like the walking stuff with my horsie coller on. Mom says I can finally walk in front of her - yippee. We both been working on walking in straight lines and ignoring everything (maybe a little tougher).

So last night, we got the night off and went to a big outdoor place with loads of people and kids and dogs and food!! Mom gave those pieces of paper she loves so much to everyone who came by to see us. Lots of blah blah blah while we waited for some food to drop from the plates....nada.

Then all of a sudden lots of music started playing and people stood up and shook their bodies, just like me and Divit. Divit even got up to dance with Dad to a Twist and Shout song - Divit was a real good tail wiggler.

Finally it was the little bugs that drove us out. Mom and Dad slapped at em, but don't they know eating them is so much easier???

Squares

Woof Woof!

Divit and I (Slick) had a great time on the 4th! We spent a really long time on the Capitol Square at the Madison Farmer's Market. We have been up there before walking around four really straight streets that surround the capitol, but yesterday we greeting people while we stayed in one spot.

We got up really early (even early for me) and arrived at the capitol while everybody was double parking and unloading lots of yummy looking types of food… (alas, none for us).

After a little while lots of people came up and greeted us. Mom and dad did a lot of blah, blah blah about how wonderful we behaved and how handsome we were, and they gave out small pieces of paper telling the people to "look us up"…. Look up where??

Then my brother Deegan came. What a surprise! Unfortunately, we were not allowed off leash to play on the grass that surrounded a really big domed building… I don't know why, nobody else was playing…

Deegan and his mom stayed for quite awhile, blah, blah, blahed, walked around the square and then blah, blahed some more. A really nice man took pictures of us and told us that he would send them to mom. I sure hope he does, because we did a really nice "down" and smiled pretty so he could take the pictures.

After we left the "Farmer's Market" Divit and I went to Mindy's house (mom and dad's pup), where mom put us to bed for a little while. We had not been in crates before at Mindy's house, but we were sooooo tired, that we just took a really nice afternoon nap while the human's ate hamburgers and tossed water balloons at each other.

Last night there was a lots of noise and lights in the sky. Reggie, our " brother" border collie that lives with us was really afraid of the noise. Divit, Stitch (our "sister" Golden Retriever) and I could not understand why….we just went to sleep as it was not very interesting to us.

That's all for now fellow pups.

Lots of Updates

Woof, Woof.

I can see I'm been slow in posting but Mom and Dad have me on a 25/8 schedule and I have NO leisure time fellow pups!!

First, I should report on Bodie & Tyler and Moby & Tanner's graduation Saturday night. Food food food everywhere and one measly dropped piece of Pepperoni :-( I should also mention it was raining indoors too!! Everytime anyone stood up at the little brown house with the antenna, the rain would start. But it was OK cuz everyone mopped it up with those tissue thingies.

Anyhows, here's the cake Divit and I didn't get to eat...

and Tyler and Tanner guarding it...

and Bodie and Tyler graduating...

and Tanner being eaten alive just before he could graduate...

All for now, I'll post again tomorrow.
