Misfits

Not sure if Echo knew why the Puppy Coordinator and Trainer stopped by the house on Saturday, but he made their decision very easy. Not sure why, but he cried and whined the entire time that we discussed his situation, about ninety minutes. Not sure if it was one thing or a combination, but Echo has been terminated (from the program).

Our puppy Echo will be now be career transitioned to a permanent home. We are 0 for 2, but the Puppy Coordinator says that his temperament is just not a good fit to be a guide dog, a "misfit" - my term not hers. As we prepare for Echo's departure, Buddy's journey to a new home and role as loved pet also begins.

From what I hear, Echo seems to take more after his father and would therefore be a superb field dog. If anyone is interested in either of our two "misfits", please contact us or Marlene at OccuPaws.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure he'll enjoy his new adventures though.

Good luck to both Echo and Buddy on beginning their new (as of yet unknown) journeys! Remember, success as a raiser isn't measured by the number of graduates you have, but by the love you invest in each one! Not all dogs (actually, most) aren't up to the challenging life of service and let their wish to be a pet made known! Good job for raising the two of them and give them each an extra hug for me when you can!

Jeff and Lisa, you are super raisers. It is not your fault that Echo has higher pray drive than we desire for guide work. You can't make a brown dog yellow. You have been a huge part of the OccuPaws journey and I am SO GLAD to call you both FAMILY!!! New adventures await you! I know you feel discouraged, but don't give up hope on chaning lives. What we do is sooooo special and without people like you, we wouldn't have this program. Please give Echo and Buddy a hug from me, and Dale too!
