Magic and his vest

I've been taking Magic out here and there to various locales. Yesterday we went to Hubbard Avenue Diner in Middleton to have breakfast with Jeff & Aaron. They had immediate seating for 2 so Jeff and Aaron (who needed breakfast) took it. Magic and I sat in the front waiting area. He laid down and accepted treats from me and pets from everyone else. Was great until it was time to move. Magic does not like to walk with the vest on - it's so funny because that will be his job someday. He'll just flop down in the middle of a walkway and put his head on his paws. I can lure him a little ways with a treat, but I don't want that to become a habit. Later we went to the bowling alley with some friends and got the same response. It took us 5 minutes to get from the door to where we were sitting. But then he was great and lay down and took a nap, even had kids coming by to pet him. I'm guessing it will get better with time and practice.

How is he with walking on a leash without the vest?

Try having him wear the vest in the house when you are just hanging around in the living room. Have him on a leash with the vest on and have Magic at your feet.. afterall part of his job will be hanging out. Walk around your house with the vest and leash on. Please give yourself a "self check" to see if Magic is just "pulling your chain".

Magic walks well without the vest, even up to 1.25 miles. Although with this super cold weather, we get about 3 blocks and his toes "freeze up" and he can't walk anymore. But he romps and plays in the snow fine with Sara for 20-30 minutes. The other day I did try dragging him a little ways on a smooth floor to see if he would jump up and start walking again. Worked briefly. Then I found out if I went behind him/nudged his butt, he got up and moved ahead. I'll try having him wear it in the house, haven't done that yet, but makes sense.
